Former Expedia CFO joins Plaid

Fintech startup Plaid has taken a significant step forward by appointing Eric Hart, former CFO of Expedia, as its first Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

While rumors circulate about the possibility of an IPO, Plaid's spokesperson clarified that while it's a milestone they might consider, there's no set timeline for it.

Plaid’s CEO, Zach Perret, enthusiastically welcomed Hart to the Plaid team, citing his extensive experience building Expedia into a global platform. Hart's career at Expedia spanned over 13 years, culminating in his appointment as CFO in 2019. He served as Expedia's Chief Strategy Officer during his tenure, overseeing the company's strategy, business development, global M&A, and investments.

Plaid initially gained recognition as a company that connects consumer bank accounts to financial applications. Over time, it has expanded its offerings to provide a comprehensive onboarding experience. Plaid was on the verge of being acquired by Visa for $5 billion before the deal faced regulatory scrutiny and was subsequently canceled. Following this, Plaid secured funding at a valuation of $13.4 billion and embarked on diversifying its revenue streams.

One notable initiative is Plaid's anti-fraud payments product, Signal, which has been on the market for about ten months and analyzes approximately $3 billion worth of bank payments monthly. Plaid reports that it is on track to facilitate 2 billion bank payments, doubling its volume from the previous year, with a total transaction value of $10 billion.
